Court orders iHerb to delete mobile app in Russia over banned goods

SAMARA, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- The Ulyanovsk Regional Court has obliged the owner of U.S. online store iHerb to block access to its mobile application in Russia because of the sale of unsafe products, a spokesperson for the regional prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.

“On request of the prosecutor’s office of the Zasviyazhsky district of the city of Ulyanovsk, the foreign company will mute access to the official mobile application, from the platform of which the products dangerous for life and health of people are sold,” the statement read.

The prosecutors discovered that unsafe biological dietary supplements, including for children, can be purchased in the iHerb store. Specialists found preservatives or plants banned for use in any children’s products or noncompliance with the technical regulation of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The online store also offers some products that are not registered in Russia.
